Q&A with our CTO

We took some time to check-in with our busy CTO, Denis!

Q: Tell us about yourself

DD: I'm a simple guy. I'm a builder. I live off coffee, sushi and Jesus. When I've had enough I go off on the river for a while or play my guitar. I'm probably the most strong willed (sometimes to a fault) person I know, but I do everything with heart.

Q: How did you end up where you are today?

DD: I went to university and college to get a taste and worked my way in the IT department in a blue-chip company. The whole time I taught myself how to code on nights and weekends and eventually stopped doubting myself and stepped up to change the world with Porpoise.

Q: What’s your favourite food?

DD: Definitely my mom's homemade pizza.

Q: What is the most rewarding part of being the CTO of a startup company?

DD: The most rewarding part is helping young founders. As CTO you're pushing code in ways you can't learn in school, raising to higher vantage points to discover new ways of pushing through, learning from the smartest people around who are willing to give you a shot. So the best part is helping others come along this amazing ride.

Q: If you could have any one superpower, which would you choose?

DD: To fly. As a kid, I remember dreaming of flying like Superman. It's like I already knew exactly how to do it. Take a few steps, leap and point your head forward. Realizing I was in a dream and could do anything was always my favourite part. Until then, I'll put up with missing flights because of a checked bag.
